SUMMARY:Farmland Assessment Forum- Henry County
DESCRIPTION:State Representative Dan Swanson announced he and other area State Legislators are partnering with the Knox\, Bureau and Henry County Farm Bureaus® to host Farmland Assessment Meetings in each of the three counties. \n“As a farmer\, I know firsthand the impact property taxes and increasing assessments can have on those who feed the world.  This program is designed to educate\, empower and provide tools to taxpayers\,” said Swanson. \nAll three meetings will be on Monday\, March 2\, 2020: \n8:30am-10:30am  (Knox) Carl Sandburg College\, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.\, Galesburg \n2:00pm-4:00pm    (Bureau) Bureau County Metro Center\, 837 Park Avenue West\, Princeton \n5:30pm-7:30pm    (Henry) Black Hawk East Auditorium\, 26230 Black Hawk Rd.\, Galva \nAll farmland owners or farm managers are invited to attend\, residency in the three host counties is not required.  The purpose of these meetings is to discuss increasing property assessments and adjustments due to flooding.  Due\, in part\, to a change in the Farmland Assessment Act\, all farmland assessments will continue to go up.  The rate of the increase will depend on soil type.  This increase in assessed values will be reflected on the property tax bills payable in 2020 and for several years to come. \nAdditional information will be provided on the opportunity to receive a flood debasement on those acres that saw crop loss and prevented planting due to last year’s flood.  The presentations will be made by Brenda Matherly\, Director of Local Government Affairs with the Illinois Farm Bureau\, and will give attendees a better understanding on how farmland assessments are calculated and the long-term impact of those values. \nRSVP’s are requested to the County Farm Bureau’s so that enough materials and seating may be provided at each event.

SUMMARY:Tick Talk 101- Henry County
DESCRIPTION:State Representative Dan Swanson announces he will be hosting a “Tick Talk 101” presentation in association with the Illinois Lyme Association and Spotlight on Lyme QCA on September 30 in Woodhull.275 \nTick Talk 101 attendees will learn what types of ticks are present in Northwestern and Western Illinois and the diseases they may carry.  Information about precautions to protect your family as well as symptoms and testing information will be provided.  All aspects of ticks and tick-borne diseases will be discussed. \nThe presentation will occur on Monday\, September 30 at 6:30pm at Rep. Swanson’s new District Office at 275 N. Division Street in Woodhull.  Jennifer Russell\, Executive Director of the Illinois Lyme Association will be the presenter.  Complimentary light snacks and refreshments will be provided to attendees. \nIn February 2018\, Swanson introduced House Bill 4515\, the Lauryn Russell Lyme Disease Prevention and Protection Law\, which allowed Illinois doctors to go beyond CDC protocols when treating especially persistent cases of Lyme disease without facing punishment from state regulators. It also created task forces to study the disease and provide educational resources to health care providers about its symptoms and treatments. Earlier this year\, Swanson introduced legislation to amend the Illinois Insurance Code to require insurance policies “to provide coverage for long-term antibiotic therapy for a person with a tick-borne disease\,” like Lyme disease.  That legislation passed both chambers and was signed by the Governor in August 2019. \n
