State Representative Dan Swanson was appointed by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin to the Military and Prior Learning Assessment Task Force on Monday.
“I am honored Leader Durkin appointed me to serve on the Military Prior Learning Assessment Task Force. While in the military, I received college credit hours at Black Hawk Junior College- East Campus and Western Illinois University’s Board of Governor’s Degree Program because of my prior military training, schools and experiences,” said Swanson. “It is important to recognize and credit the institutional knowledge and experiences of our men and women who serve or have served this great nation.”
The Military Prior Learning Assessment Task Force is charged with examining policies and best practices in other states for active military and student veterans and study how they can be applied at Illinois’ public and private colleges and universities. Ensuring that quality standards are calibrated for military learning and experiences toward earning academic credit is essential for easing the transition for student veterans.
Swanson also serves on the Illinois Veterans Advisory Council and has been an ardent advocate of services to Veterans while serving in the Illinois House since January 2017.
