Swanson Bills for Veterans, Armed Forces Sent to Governor Memorial Day Weekend

A pair of bills sponsored by State Representative Dan Swanson honoring Veterans and assisting our armed forces were sent to the Governor in the leadup to Memorial Day weekend.

Included in the measures are House Bill 2088 to allow for license plates honoring veterans of the Cold War and Senate Bill 2076, which brings the Illinois Code of Military Justice in line with the federal Uniform Code of Military Justice.

“We owe a great debt to these men and women,” said Representative Swanson.  “As a Veteran, Veteran Advocate, and Legislator, I am proud to provide legislative leadership on these issues.”

With another Memorial Day spent in Springfield attempting to pass a State Budget in the approach to the end of the Spring Session of the Illinois General Assembly, Rep. Swanson took to the House Floor to pay tribute and share his memories of fallen brethren with whom he served.

In his emotional comments, Swanson paid tribute to Air Force Staff Sergeant Christopher Frost, who died on March 4, 2008 while serving with the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq/Operation Iraqi Freedom and Col. Steven Scott and Major Stuart Wolfer who were killed on April 6, 2008.  All served alongside Lt. Col. Swanson and his tribute paid homage to their memory and their families.

“Together, we honor those we love, we honor those we’ve lost, we honor those who have served, and we pay tribute to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for us all to enjoy our freedoms,” Rep. Swanson concluded in the heartfelt tribute.
