State Representative Dan Swanson was appointed by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin to the Military Economic Development Committee on Thursday, February 20.
The purpose of the Committee is to preserve, protect, expand and attract new military missions, assets, and installation in the State of Illinois as well as to encourage defense related businesses to expand or relocate to the State of Illinois.
“I am honored Leader Durkin appointed me to serve on the Military Economic Development Committee. Beyond my extensive military experience, in Illinois we have several defense installations, manufacturers, and National Guard and Reserve Armories,” said Swanson. “I have insights which I am eager to bring to the Committee for how we can retain these vital defense capabilities here in Illinois, as well as how we can enhance the military value of Illinois’ military installations.”
Swanson, a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the United State Army and Illinois Army National Guard, served in the Gulf War as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom and earned a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge. He serves on the Illinois Veterans Advisory Council and has been an ardent advocate of services to Veterans while serving in the Illinois House since January 2017.
