It was a busy weekend in the 71st district. One of the highlights for Rep. Swanson was celebrating his being named Blackhawk College East Ag Alumni of the Year.
“I am truly humbled. When I look at the group of previous honorees, I hope I can measure up to their contributions to the agriculture industry and agriculture advocacy as they have done through the years,” Rep. Swanson said.
At the reception, Rep. Swanson credited his experience and education at Blackhawk for growing his love of agriculture, and his passion for advocating for Illinois’ farmers and producers.
“When I talk to young people I like to remind them of the opportunities at their local farm equipment dealer or fertilizer business. We don’t plant without technology. We don’t spray without technology. We don’t harvest crops without technology,” Rep. Swanson said. “In addition to those planting seeds or raising livestock, we need people prepared to support agriculture as scientists, agronomists, economists, animal science, agronomy, research, sales, technology and horticulture. These are career fields available through our community colleges to build the foundation.”
