On Wednesday the Henry County Soil and Water Conservation District conducted a water shocking at Al DeCrane’s pond near Galva.
It was a very interesting operation. The boat operator would “shock” the water with very little voltage on probes at the front of the boat. Two people would net out the stunned fish and deposit them in a water tank on the boat. After catching several fish, information was shared on the health and condition of the fish. It was noted there is an abundance of large mouth bass that can over crowd sunfish and other fish.
Visitation schools fourth grade class attended and they were given the opportunity to hold a fish.
Very interesting. Thank you to HCSWCD and Al DeCrane.
