Eighty years ago today, on 6 June 1944, Allied troops under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower launched the largest seaborne invasion in history on the beaches of Normandy, France. D-Day is a time to remember the sacrifices made by those who participated in this mission which liberated western Europe and saved the world.
