WOODHULL – Every day it seems a new scam seeking to separate local residents from their money comes to light. That’s why State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) is joining with Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois, local sheriffs and the Illinois Attorney General’s office to host a seminar on how to avoid being scammed.
“We have all heard the stories of financial scams going around. Many of us even have friends or relatives who have been harmed by a scammer,” Swanson said. “Join us to find out how to protect yourself and your loved ones from being scammed.”
The event will be Tuesday August 20 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Oxford American Legion post, located at 211 W. A Street in Alpha.
Representatives of the Illinois Attorney General’s office will be on hand to update residents on the latest scams going around and how to avoid being taken in by them. Local sheriffs will attend and discuss scams they are seeing throughout their counties.
The event is free and open to the public. Anyone with questions may contact Rep. Swanson’s office at (309) 334-7474.
