State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) spoke about America’s fallen heroes as part of the commemoration of Memorial Day 2025 in the Illinois House of Representatives.
Swanson detailed the role of Illinois’ own General John A. Logan, commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union Army veterans, in creating the holiday. Logan also served in the Illinois General Assembly and the U.S. House and Senate.
He went on to describe the sacrifices made by Gold Star families and the meaning of the Memorial Day holiday.
Swanson added later that players on the Chicago Sky WNBA team owed an apology to every Gold Star family for a disrespectful act over the Memorial Day weekend.
