State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) will host a pair of seminars September 10 which will include tips from local law enforcement and the Illinois Attorney General’s office on how to avoid being scammed.
“Far too many of us know someone who has fallen victim to a financial scam,” Swanson said. “Scammers will stop at nothing to separate you from your money, and they are always rolling out new and more clever scams to do so.”
On Wednesday September 10, a scam prevention seminar will be at the Warren County History Museum, 238 S. Sunny Lane, in Monmouth from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. A second seminar will be at the Alexis Community Center, 205 W. Palmer Avenue in Alexis from 11 a.m. until noon. The events are free and open to the public.
Speakers, including Heather Calcara, a community outreach specialist for the Attorney General’s office, will provide information on scams that are going around, how to detect them and what to do if you or a loved one is being scammed. The seminars are being hosted in cooperation with Midwest Bank, Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois and WRAM radio.
