HOUSE RESOLUTION 182 HONORING MAYA ESPARZA
OFFERED BY REPRESENTATIVE DANIEL SWANSON
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Maya Esparza on the occasion of being named one of the 2017 Top Youth Volunteers in Illinois by the 22nd annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and
WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards were created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) to emphasize the importance our nation places on service to others, and to encourage all young Americans to contribute to their communities; and
WHEREAS, More than 31,000 young people from across the country participated in the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and
WHEREAS, Maya Esparza, an 18-year-old senior at Geneseo High School, was inspired to raise money for sick children after her own hospitalization for allergic attacks; and
WHEREAS, As a Distinguished Finalist in the 2017 program, Maya Esparza will receive an engraved bronze medallion; and
WHEREAS, Maya Esparza raised more than $1,000 dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by decorating and hand-stamping old keys with positive words, and then selling them through her “Keys for Kids” Facebook page with the help of her school volunteer club; and
WHEREAS, Maya Esparza has also supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by running 13 miles in a benefit race; and
WHEREAS, Maya Esparza represents the best of Illinois youth and stands as a role model for younger generations; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Maya Esparza on the occasion of her outstanding accomplishment of being named one of the 2017 Top Youth Volunteers in Illinois by the 22nd annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Maya Esparza as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
